TECHNICAL LITERACY & SYSTEM ARCHITECTURE

How On-Grid Solar Works for You

An engineering overview of synchronization between your rooftop solar plant, domestic electrical panel, and the WBSEDCL power distribution utility.

PHASE 01

Daytime Self-Consumption

Solar PV modules convert natural sunlight directly into direct current (DC) electricity. The on-grid inverter immediately transforms this into 230V/415V alternating current (AC), prioritizing your running appliances (fans, lights, ACs, motors) instantaneously without batteries.

PHASE 02

Bi-Directional Energy Export

When your solar generation exceeds your home or facility consumption during peak afternoon hours, the excess energy is automatically exported into the WBSEDCL local grid infrastructure through a government-approved bi-directional net meter.

PHASE 03

Nighttime Grid Power

At sunset, your system smoothly draws standard electricity from the WBSEDCL grid. There is zero disruption, voltage flicker, or switch-over lag. You consume the banked solar units generated during the daytime.

HARDWARE

Digital Bi-Directional Meter

Installed by WBSEDCL authorized technicians, this smart digital meter independently registers two core variables: Import (energy consumed from grid) and Export (surplus clean units fed into grid). Your bill calculates purely on Net Units.

CRITICAL GRID PROTECTION

Automatic Safety Anti-Islanding Protection

If the central utility line suffers an outage or scheduled maintenance, on-grid inverters immediately shut down export current within 20 milliseconds. This strictly prevents hazardous back-feeding into external transmission lines.

POWER BALANCE MATRIX
Solar Generation + 18.5 kWh / day
Direct Home Use - 8.2 kWh / day
Exported to WBSEDCL + 10.3 kWh Credit

Frequently Asked Questions

Clear, transparent technical guidelines vetted by our certified rooftop electrical engineers.

1. What is an On-Grid Solar System and how does it work?

An On-Grid (or Grid-Tied) Solar System is connected directly to your local electricity utility provider (WBSEDCL in West Bengal) without needing chemical battery banks. The system contains two core elements:

  • Solar PV Modules (Mono-PERC/Bifacial): Convert natural daylight photon energy into high-voltage Direct Current (DC).
  • Grid-Tie Inverter: Intelligently synchronizes with WBSEDCL's exact frequency (50Hz) and operational grid voltage (230V Single Phase or 415V Three Phase).

When your solar plant generates more electricity than your immediate domestic or industrial demand, the surplus automatically streams into the WBSEDCL grid through a Bi-Directional Net Meter. When your power demand exceeds generation or during night hours, electricity flows seamlessly back from the grid.

2. Will Solar work during cloudy days or during power cuts?

Yes, solar panels still generate electricity on cloudy days, though at a reduced capacity compared to direct sunlight. However, an On-Grid system will automatically shut down during a grid power cut. This is a mandatory safety feature called "anti-islanding" to protect utility workers who may be repairing the lines.

3. Can an On-Grid Solar System reduce my electricity bills to near zero?

Absolutely! Through net metering, the surplus electricity you export during the day offsets the electricity you import at night. If your system is sized correctly to match your annual consumption, your net electricity bill can drop to zero, leaving only fixed meter charges.

4. Does an On-Grid Solar System require daily maintenance or battery replacements?

No daily maintenance is required. Without batteries, On-Grid systems are virtually maintenance-free. Occasional cleaning of the solar panels (removing dust/bird droppings) every few weeks is sufficient to maintain optimal generation efficiency.

5. How do I know which solar system size (kW) is required for my home or factory?

System size is calculated based on your monthly electricity consumption (units/kWh), available shadow-free rooftop space, and connected load. Our engineers will perform a free site survey and analyze your electricity bills to recommend the perfect capacity.

6. Can I install solar panels on my rooftop? What are the roof requirements?

Solar panels can be installed on RCC (flat concrete) roofs, sloped tiled roofs, or industrial tin sheds. You need a shadow-free area (typically 100 sq.ft per kW) facing South for maximum generation. Our structural engineers design customized mounting structures for any roof type.

7. What government subsidies are available under PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana in West Bengal?

Under the PM Surya Ghar scheme, residential consumers can avail Central Financial Assistance (CFA). Subsidies are substantial for systems up to 3kW, and flat amounts for systems above 3kW. We handle the entire portal registration and subsidy claim process for you.

8. How can I contact M/S UJJWAL ROY for an on-site feasibility survey?

You can use the Contact Dashboard form above, call our helpdesk, or email us. As a WBSEDCL empaneled vendor, we provide comprehensive end-to-end services from feasibility survey to net-meter commissioning.
